![]() I think for me it broke DSLRs back in general. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. The dock has been buried in my "junk" photographic equipment pile since. I hanged on to the dock thinking that I would use it for future Sigma lenses but the truth is the brief experience with this lens had me leery of picking up another Sigma. I paid for 1.8 not 2.8 so back went the lens. Stop it down to F2.8 and that gets you to accurate AF on D7200. Basically the same situation with 50-100 (but this lens doesn't have any problems with outer AF points). 1.8 is just too much for AF module of D7200 with that high pixel density and the lack of AA filter adds to those small AF imperfections. I think that while it was a cool idea to get a sharp 1.8 crop sensor lens. And in 5 test shots there is a big chance to get one close to -2 and +2. Like calibration of -1, +1 are at the region where DOF is almost OOF. Maddeningly frustrating.Įven with USB dock tolerances are high enough. With this lens, at wide open, I was missing shots b/c out of focus issue. I can't get consistent AF from shot to shot. +1 but that wan't what killed this lens for meĪnd I don't think that it's consistent enough in the center. I use that lens for last several years and while optically it's very nice, I have some problems on D7200 with outer AF points. See below some images to demonstrate the problem. Guess Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 may be my next lens if I get refund on this one. Not sure what to do next really as I bought this lens on the hope of doing some weddings with it but it is simply too inconsistent and having spent nearly £600 on a useless lens don't have funds to buy a replacement. At this point even sigma itself suggest I contact the retailer that sold me the lens and hope for a refund.Ĭan't really say how disappointed I am with the entire experience with sigma. The central and outside points do perform more similar than before which is an improvement but the front focus problem remains. Did some test shots and it seems it is the same as before. I sent the lens to sigma and got it back last week. Just wanted to give you an update on this. ![]() Ended up with the 24-35 F/2 instead, which also works on FX, and paired it with the Tokina 14-20 F/2. Interestingly enough, the 24-70 on full frame with my D750 covered about the same percentage of the frame with AF points as the 18-35 did on my D500 (those points that focused properly).Īlmost bought another 18-35 recently, but it too had AF issues in the outer points at 35mm. I sold mine because I wanted to use outer points on my D500, and my D750 + 24-70VR covered that function (low light fast shutter speed general purpose zoom). It's almost as if the lens has field curvature in infra-red (but not in visible spectrums) and the AF unit is focusing infra-red biased or something.įantastic lens, optically, and (in my experience) using autofocus in the central region. Beyond that, the focus was consistent, but consistently off, getting worse the further from center I got. Mine worked fine in the central region out to about halfway to the edge of the AF points on the D500, in a circular pattern. Curious how it will do on my D500 which has improved autofocus system. They indicated it can have troubles focusing if you get very far from the center. I have that lens ordered (should be here tomorrow) and read a lot of reviews. ![]() ![]() As anyone tried to return a lens past the 30days if the repair fails to address the issue the lens have? Should I bother to send the lens to sigma again? So I am at lost since I dropped more then £500 on a lens that I cannot use, sigma does not care and it has been more than 30 days since I purchased so can't return it for a refund. I have contacted sigma support but they replied saying the lens is optimized for the central focus point and that I should use focus recompose instead. I was using f4 and as I mentioned all the photos were fine if taken with either the Nikon 50mm f1.8D or the 18-140mm kit lens. However yesterday I did a session on a studio and upon inspection of the photos started to notice a lot of them were out of focus, guess what all of the out of focus ones were taken with the Sigma. I have since used the lens a few times but either at 1.8 or close or for landscapes and even though I did noticed the occasional miss of the focus but always assumed it was my fault as the target test seemed fine. When the lens came back I tested the lens again using a focus target and found it to be accurate so didn't gave it much though. I immediately tested the lens and focus to be front focusing quite heavily so contacted Sigma and sent the lens for repair. I know that this lens is famous for focus problems but I got a copy back in March new from Currys/PC World. ![]()
